Concert of”Axion Esti”
One of the three-day commemorative events for the Chortiatis Holocaust
Concert of «Axion Esti» took place in the 3rd High School of Hortiatis. “Axion Esti” is the emblematic poem of Odysseas Elytis and the composition of Mikis Theodorakis.
It was in the early 1960s when Mikis Theodorakis, a young and promising composer of post-war Greek music at the time, envisioned a fusion of Western symphonic music and the Greek traditions of Christian-Orthodox church music and the popular music. Odysseus Elytis’ expansive poetic vision inspired Mikis into composing a folk oratorio, a timeless landmark in Greek popular music.
