Bread culture brings us together
The project “Loaf stories. Identity & belonging through bread culture” is a cultural education project focusing on intangible heritage and the exchange of know-how between Limnos and Oslo. Drawing inspiration from the bread culture and its coherent dynamics within the community, and benefiting from the partners’ expertise in education, intangible heritage and the environment, the project emphasized the raw material (ancient and traditional seeds), the importance for the community of bread making and consumption, its equipment and techniques.
The implementation focused on preparing and conducting a series of activities in Limnos and included:
- a partners’ meeting in Oslo to finalise the planning and preparation of the activities
- a 2-day open event on bread as a living tradition and a meeting point of cultures, sustainability and climate change
- a structured exchange of views with the local community on bread making methods and beliefs from Limnos
- a two-day experiential workshop for adolescents, with and without disabilities, from schools in Limnos
- an exchange of good practices with representatives of local authorities on the integration of intangible heritage in the educational process.
For the needs of the project, original bilingual educational material and its accessible version for people with autism and developmental disorders were created.
